FUN GEOMETRY

My Preschoolers enjoy creating fun faces, buildings and goofy pictures, while exploring geometry concepts  with these brightly colored shapes!

These shapes can be found through Handwriting without Tears, but you can easily cut out shapes from card stock and lamentate them for durability!!!

We added bottles caps, but you can provide pipe cleaners and other fun things to be even more creative!!!

EGG CARTON MATH GAME

Items Needed to Assemble Game:


18 Count Egg Carton


2 Random Objects (Beads, Buttons etc…)


Counters (Counting Bears, Unfix Cubes, etc.…)


Assembly:


Using a permanent marker number the bottom of the egg carton holes alternating numbers 1-5 (or any numbers suitable for your students)


Because the lid of my egg carton had holes in it, I taped plastic wrap to the top so my random items would not fall out when shaken.


Object of Game:


Students will learn to recognize numbers count out objects to match numbers and add numbers together.


How to Play:


Put two small random items in egg carton and close the lid. Have student shake the egg carton around so the two items can land in various slots. Have students identify the numbers that the “beads” landed in and the proper amount of “counters” to match the numbers the beads landed on.


Example: If one bead lands on a two, count out two unfix cubes and the next bead landed on a 3, count out three unfix cubes than say, “2 cubes plus 3 cubes equal how many cubes? Let’s count them together.”

COLOR AND NUMBER BINGO

Items needed to assemble game:


5 gallon paint stirring sticks ~one per student (Home Depot)

Round colored stickers

Clothes pins

Assembly:


I put the colored stickers on the paint sticks in increments of 5, alternating the colors and I numbered each color from 1-5. The stickers I purchased included four different colors. (Any numbers can be used depending on your indivdual class)

Object of game:

Number and color recognition and hand eye coordination

How to play:

Teacher calls out random color and number and students put a clothes pin on matching color/number combinations.

When students locate the color/number combination and have the clothes pin attached they yell out BINGO!!!

LEARNING TO LOVE AND CHERISH BOOKS!!!

Next week we will be starting our new "My Books" from HWT!


According to HWT, My Book is a child's personal storybook and a special way to explore the wonders of books and words. Children learn about the parts of a book, concepts about print, listening, new words, and word and concept connections. My Book encourages children to personalize with drawing and storytelling!!


What better way to teach ...students how to respect and cherish books?!

COOL TOOLS WE USE!!!

Handwriting without Tears is our main curriculum source that we use at Teea Time Playschool and I personally cannot shout out enough praises for such a well-rounded program!!!



The Get Set for School Program for Pre-K includes Readiness & Writing, Language & Literacy, and Numbers & Math. Along with the workbooks there are several other tools that reinforce the lessons and two of my favorite products include the Roll–A–Dough Letters® and the Stamp and See Screen®.


With the Roll-A-Dough Letters tool we form our weekly letter and number out of play dough and shape it in the little trey on top of the letter or number card that is placed inside the trey.









The Stamp and See Screen is kind of like a Magna Doodle, but smaller for easier handling and the letter and number cards from the Roll-A-Dough fit perfectly so my students can trace the letters with the stylus that is provided or they can use the magnetic wood pieces to form the letters.

When we write or form most letters and numbers with the magnetic pieces, wood pieces or write our letters or numbers we consistently use the same terminology, which includes, “Big Line, Little Line, Big Curve or Little Curve.”
