PINTEREST AND THE FINE PRINT

Oh, Pinterest how I love you, but not sure we all play by the rules. Alot of talk happening about people pinning and not giving credit to the original people who are posting. I do not pretend to understand it all nor do I agree with everything on every level, but I for one want to play by the etiquette rules if at all possible.
Concerning TEEA TIME BLOG, I am honored if people find something they would like to pin, therefore I have added a "Permission to Pin" button that was made by a very talented lady who I respect alot. Please head over to her blog and read the details of this very important matter that we will ALL be hearing more and more about in the future! Thank you Laura Candler!!!

DENTAL AWARENESS

It is Dental Awareness month and we are so lucky to have TWO preschool Moms who work for a dentist office and they do a fabulous job pulling our dental awareness day together so my students are educated and go home with a truck load of goodies provided by Dr. Tomlinson and his office!!! A huge thank you to Dr. T, Kathleen and Tasha for making this happen for my Teea Timer’s!!!!

BUGSY the puppet bug came early so the students could practice brushing his huge wonderful teeth and Ms. Tasha talked to us about brushing, flossing, fluoride and what it is like to go to the dentist for the first time. Ms. Tasha answered all kinds of questions and showed us and awesome DVD about a dinosaur who goes to the dentist too. At the end she gave us wonderful goodie bags filled with very cool things!!!!

We made a simple cool craft with construction paper cut into an oval shape and we cut white styrofoam in to little pieces and glued them into the mouth for teeth, colored a tongue and used white yarn for dental floss!
IF YOU ARE A TEEA TIME PARENT, HEAD OVER TO OUR TEEA TIME FACEBOOK PAGE AND GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO TASH AND KATHLEEN FOR PULLING THIS TOGETHER!!!

STORY LADY

Our Story Lady, Ms. Carol comes to preschool once a month and the students really look forward to seeing her and they anxiously wait to see Scruffer’s the dog (puppet) and see what stories or finger plays Ms. Carol will share with the group during story time. There is simply an excitement in the air when we have any kind of a guest come to our school and the children are able to practice everything we are learning about manners, listening skills, and interacting with another adult that is not their normal teacher.

We have been learning about books and how we need to respect books, how precious books are, the front cover, the back cover, the spine, what role the Author plays and what role the illustrator plays too. Many other lessons will be following in the weeks to come.

Do you have special guest come to your school?

POST OFFICE AND MAIL CARRIER ROLE PLAY

Role playing is an important part of childhood. Creating different environments for children to act out real life scenarios helps with communication skills, socialization and can help a child build knowledge of different community roles that they very well may grow up to be.

For February we chose to role play Mail Carriers in a Post Office setting.

It was very simple to set up with boxes, envelopes, stickers for stamps, cash register, pencils, old junk mail and some mailboxes I purchased from Target, print a few signs and you are open for business!!!

FROGGY FUN FINE MOTOR SKILLS

This is an entertaining fun project for students to squish, squash and mash for a fine motor skill practice.

I went to the dollar store and bought some clear hair gel, and to Target and purchased packages of gel frogs.

All’s you have to do is squirt the hair gel in sandwich bags (use high quality bags for durability) and add a couple of drops of green or blue food color, a few frogs, seal with some packing tape and you are good to go!!! Hours of froggy fun!!!

USING CHOP STICKS FOR FINE MOTER SKILLS!!!

Fine motor skills develops those little muscle in the hands and fingers for easier writing, cutting, zipping, buttoning, picking, coloring, painting and a ton of other things.

We had a great time using these colorful CHOPSTICKS to pick up cotton balls and place them in our cups. It looks easy, but it was a challenge for some of the kids but after some practice they were so pleased with their selves for conquering the skill.

If you do a Monster Theme with your preschoolers or Kindergartener’s the following two items are a must have! I purchased the Tickle Monster book and tested it out on my 3 ½ year old grandson and what a blast we had with it!!! The book itself is a great find, but the Tickle Monster Mitts made the story even more fun then we could ever imagine and I can't wait to read it to my preschool class!!!
